All of our multivitamins contain the essential six vitamins and minerals designed to support a predominantly plant-based diet.

At PlantVit, we are relentlessly focused on including exactly the amount of each that is required for your age and life stage, from bioavailable and sustainable sources. As science evolves, so does our multivitamin.

These are the vitamins and minerals we have included, and why:

  • Iodine is essential for maintaining optimal thyroid and cognitive function. In the standard diet this is commonly found in dairy products, as iodine is used as a disinfectant for dairy cows and makes its way into the milk. It can also be found in varying quantities in fish and seaweeds.
  • Vitamin B12 reduces inflammation in the body and is essential for optimal immune system function. In the standard diet it is found in animal products, while it can also be found in varying quantities in plant based foods such as nutritional yeast and red algae.

  • Vitamin D improves the body’s absorption of calcium to produce strong bones, boosts immune system function and supports heart health. It is often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin” as your skin synthesizes it when exposed to direct sunlight. However, as we rightly protect our skin with sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing, we also reduce our production of Vitamin D. It is also difficult to come by in winter months when the sun has less strength and we are less likely to expose our skin!

  • Iron sustains our energy throughout the day and boosts the immune system. It is found in high quantities in red meat, but also in a lot of plant foods such as lentils. Globally, approximately 40% of children under 5 have iron-deficiency anemia, independent of their dietary preferences. It is possible to provide sufficient quantities of iron in any diet, but requires daily focus that is difficult to consistently achieve. For that reason, we’ve included 25% of their RDA for each age range, as a coverage dose to support the diet and prevent anemia.

  • Zinc supports cognitive function and boosts the immune system. It is found in both animal products and plant foods, but it can prove difficult to achieve the recommended daily allowance on a predominantly plant based diet as our growing soils are often depleted of zinc.

  • Selenium strengthens cardiovascular and brain health. Similarly to zinc, the proportion of selenium in our food chain is dependent on the volume of selenium in our soil. As this is often depleted, we’ve included a supplementing dose in our multivitamin.
